Created attachment 406382 [details] build log I am trying to bootstrap a Gentoo Prefix on a i386 system running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Xcode 3.2.6.... I've gotten pretty far by fixing a few quirks such as limiting libffi to 3.0.13, and for aliasing /usr/bin/cpp to /lib/cpp which readline demands. Now I'm at the stage where the emerge of binutils-apple-6.1 is attempted, and I get the following error: make SHELL=/Volumes/GENTOO/tmp/bin/bash -j2 LTO=0 clang++ -m32 -march=prescott -O2 -pipe -stdlib=libstdc++ -Wno-invalid-offsetof -I/Volumes/GENTOO/tmp/usr/include -DNDEBUG -DSUPPORT_SNAPSHOTS -Iinclude -Iabstraction -Ild -Ild/parsers -Iother -I. -c -o other/rebase.o other/rebase.cpp clang++ -m32 -march=prescott -O2 -pipe -stdlib=libstdc++ -Wno-invalid-offsetof -I/Volumes/GENTOO/tmp/usr/include -DNDEBUG -DSUPPORT_SNAPSHOTS -Iinclude -Iabstraction -Ild -Ild/parsers -Iother -I. -c -o other/unwinddump.o other/unwinddump.cpp /Volumes/GENTOO/tmp/bin/bash: clang++: command not found make: *** [other/rebase.o] Error 127 make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... /Volumes/GENTOO/tmp/bin/bash: clang++: command not found make: *** [other/unwinddump.o] Error 127 emake failed From what I understand, clang++ does not ship on Macs until Xcode 4.2. Apparently there is a version of Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard, but only for paid developers [100 bucks I think], not for free-registration developers.... Before I bite such a costly bullet, I want to make sure that there isn't a way to get through the bootstrap with Xcode 3.2.6? If I recall correctly, this is the same issue on another system I have, which is a PPC system 10.5.8. I've kind of given up on trying to patch that sinking ship....hence my attempts on this new(er) system.... I tried going back to earlier versions, but they all fail the same. 3.2 just threw a ton of errors. build log is attached; environment below; any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm just wondering why you don't have clang++, you should, as that's what the toolchain is these days.
With Xcode 3.2.6 installed, I have clang: Apple clang version 1.7 (tags/Apple/clang-77) (based on LLVM 2.9svn) but not clang++: https://trac.macports.org/wiki/LibcxxOnOlderSystems I understand these instructions, but wonder if there is a Gentoo version of how to go about this? Or am I fundamentally misunderstanding something?
I also found these fixes/workarounds: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-versions/blob/master/llvm33.rb http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18033255/install-libc-on-mac-10-6-8
correct, you'll want binutils-8.2.6-r101 at this point
