Description niks1024 2015-07-07 17:40:08 UTC
In style of Ubuntu I'm filing a generic rant-type bug.

On modern desktop systems web browsers are like like an OS within an OS. An OS that's directly exposed to the WWW and with a relatively huge attack surface for an application. Thankfully Firefox just like the Linux kernel has consistent and compared to most open source projects well predictable release schedule and it's open source which begs for an explanation why very often it takes many days for new ebuilds of it to surface? H*ll, right now not even 38.1 is in Portage tree despite known vulnerabilities in 38.0. Or is Bug 554036 wrong and 38.0.5 is actually free of known and unfixed bugs? Sure, the binary versions are quick to come by but isn't Gentoo about building your own system from sources instead of using pre-build binaries?
Lastly, I'm not lashing out at maintainers as surely they have their reasons but against Gentoo as a supposedly desktop and security oriented distribution. If Firefox on Gentoo needs more resources, then surely those can be allocated.

Reproducible: Always

If you want to help maintain the firefox ebuilds, please contact the mozilla team directly via email or IRC.

If you just want to rant, go start a blog; that doesn't belong in bugzilla.
