Description Patrick Lauer gentoo-dev 2015-06-26 02:13:16 UTC
With default settings Lightning isn't available.

Using the workaround mentioned in the ebuild the calendar is shown in the addons and the icon on the side of the menu appears.

The Calendar view is messed up (double toolbar at the top, mostly empty panes, all interactive items greyed out, buttons missing)

Once the calendar view is shown the whole UI stops responding and doesn't even redraw properly. The only remaining interaction is closing/killing TB.

So, all in all, this is once more worse than useless.

38.1.0 carries an updated lightning, it may have improved the situation. Please test (with USE="lightning" for app-global operation or without for the copy-to-profile method upstream wants you to use) and report back?

Still same FUUUU, corrupted UI and TB freezes.

So the new version actually allows switching away from the Calendar pane, but then it glitches and resizes and gets into a fight with the window manager.

Still no way to actually see Calendar items, or continue using TB after having seen the Calendar pane.

Alright -- need details in order to debug this one. I'm not seeing such behaviour on any if my tbird-38.1 installs so I need to try and reproduce your config. Lets start with what use flags are set? Next, what calendars are set up in the profile (i assume this isn't happening on a clean profile, right??)? Finally, what other addons/extensions are installed (in profile and system-wide)?

I noticed when I was playing with gdata-provider, that if it wasn't installed quite right or a wrong version was installed, that it hung *everything* in thunderbird, ie even worse than what you're seeing -- main message panes would never update/show info, etc. etc... I'm thinking that maybe something similar is occurring in your situation.

Feel free to email this to me if any of it is too sensitive to be posted on b.g.o

If you feel I have closed your bug and it is still a current issue, please reopen and update it completely. We will not work bugs that have no ebuild in tree any longer or can not be reproduced with a current system.
