Initramfs built against vanilla-sources-3.18.16 does not boot, I select it and without any output it causes the machine to reboot, I'm using the same .config I used for 3.18.14 which worked fine Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. copy .config and build kernel 2. Run genkernel --zfs --keymap initramfs 3. attempt to boot initramfs Actual Results: Computer reboots back to the efi bootloader, if left alone it will reboot indefinitly without loading the initramfs Expected Results: should have loaded the initramfs and set up root filesysteb in order for the system to boot
Oh I forgot I'm ~amd64
Sorry, but I have no idea how to assign this bug. Please do some additional troubleshooting and re-open this once you have narrowed the problem down to a specific component.
its a problem with genkernel, i use genkernel to make initramfs, but the initramfs that genkernel makes me for 3.18.16 dont boot, and I cant see any output that would tell me why.
Are we really talking about sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.51.2? Do you really use your system's EFI to boot, no bootloader like extlinux/grub? Please attach full genkernel log file from your genkernel run. Have you already unpacked both initramfs and compared the content? It is very unlikely that genkernel-3.4.51.2 (a package not modified since July 2014) has a problem with a minor linux patch. If the initramfs are equal maybe there's a problem with the kernel itself (introduced in 3.18.15 or 3.18.16) which is causing problems for you.
Using extlinux, been trying with 3.18.17 now and everything seems to be working ok, honestly I'm not sure what happened. I guess it needs chucked up to user error.
Good to hear that vanilla-sources-3.18.17 works for you. Then please feel free to close this bug as "invalid". You can always re-open or fill a new bug.
