while isntalling on a pentium based machine yesterday when i boot from the 1.2 install cd (16mb iso), dmesg shows the hda has "seek status error:" sutff and fdisk does not recognise the hda at all. whereas when booted by a debian or redhat or mandrake install cd on the same machine there are aboslutely no errors and the hda is detected fine and also the fdisk detects the hda. have tried the other distributions boot in the rescue mode and then also tried their installation mode too.. there were no errors at all. i dont understand how to reproduce the error. but this thing could be minimised if we can also put "cfdisk" in the install cd. pm
try disabling DMA on the drives
Try the latest experimental "2002122100" livecd at http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/experimental/livecd/ and let me know your results (good/bad) I expect it was due to some quirk in the 1.2 kernel.
Closing due to age and lack of user follow-up
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
