The KDE docs seem to fail each time, however I've since noticed that the error repeats sporatically over the kde doc-set. My suspission is that where the error occurs is a race condition depending on which thread of the make set completes first. Odd, it happens during KDE 3.2.2 as well...
I emerged all the docbook things I could find. One or more of these is a missing dependency. It apears that KDE will emerge successfully now. * app-text/docbook-dsssl-stylesheets Latest version available: 1.77-r2 Latest version installed: 1.77-r2 Size of downloaded files: 385 kB Homepage: http://www.sourceforge.net/docbook/ Description: DSSSL Stylesheets for DocBook. See this thread for a work-around. Please log a post there if you have the problem as well. http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46028 In short. DO_NOT_COMPILE="doc" emerge kde Ask it not to make the documentation, and the error will be bypassed.
you may be able to fix the error using this page: http://dev.gentoo.org/~satai/sgmlfix.html but as such, i don't know what to tell you - sounds to me like something local got broken.
