This is just a question for gentoo-sources maintaners: Is there any estimate when will gentoo-sources move to 2.6? I know that there are gentoo-dev-sources, but I have been using gentoo-sources since I installed Gentoo and want to do so (unless it will stay 2.4 for much longer). Also, dev-sources are moving much faster then gentoo-sources. Also, quite a few people are asking the same thing, so it will be good to have official comment on gentoo-sources status. Thanks Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
the official stance on this will be that gentoo-dev-sources will move into gentoo-sources once the config-kernel pinning code has been tested and working. the config-kernel pinning will mean we can condense all versions of the kernel into a single package which are within the same patchset. ie: gentoo-sources will have 2.4 and 2.6 versions if you choose to not use 2.6, then you can pin kernel sources to 2.4 a rough guestimate of this work going into portage is a month or so. there has been a lot of delays recently in kernel-land.
