With the squid-3.4.6 ebuild dev-libs/nettle was added as dependency (see bug #511580). Please make this dependency optional. It is possible to get rid of it by using --without-nettle when running configure and Squid works fine without it (tested with squid-3.4.11-r1).

Upstream roadmap is to make nettle a hard dependency and get rid of bundled re-implementation of crypto algorithms like base64, MD4, MD5, SHA* etc in squid.  Nettle is a good choice wrt API stability and licensing grounds.  Sorry, wont fix.
