The proposed solution works for me but does not detect versions or if Tix is installed at all.

please do 's/libtk.so/libtix.so/' for the header

Well, I can't understand why this is not a python issue since it is fixed in the python setup process. Nevertheless I'll close this bug as there seem very little interest.
