The Smooth engine has been updated to deal with the GTK_IS_COMBO problem. See Bug 44988 for a bit of a description as to what this is about. This ebuild simply uses the new version.

note to dev who takes this : also check for other open smooth engine bugs & fix them while at it.

Well the gtk-engines-smooth-0.5.8.ebuild is in portage already, however, as per comment 2 there are still issues with it. The two bugs that go along with this are http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48036 and http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33928. The first one is an actual error and the latter is a feature enhancement.

I'm going to tap on this bug again as I figure the proposed patch I connected to another bug will never be seen as that bug was subsequently marked as a dupe of this one. Although 0.5.8 is in the tree, the ebuild will fail if gtk-pixbuf is not installed and gtk1 support is enabled. I created an attachment to another bug that is a ebuild which will check to see if gdk-pixbuf is included and hence fix the issue. The ebuild is here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=36653&action=view (attached to another bug which is a dupe of this one), and the explanation for is http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48036#c6
I'm having trouble emerging this package. It dies during the ./configure process: checking dynamic linker characteristics... GNU/Linux ld.so checking how to hardcode library paths into programs... immediate checking whether stripping libraries is possible... yes appending configuration tag "F77" to libtool checking for gtk-config... /usr/bin/gtk-config checking for gdk-pixbuf-config... no configure: error: Could not find installation of GDK-Pixbuf. Try ./configure --help !!! ERROR: x11-themes/gtk-engines-smooth-0.5.8 failed. !!! Function econf, Line 362, Exitcode 1 !!! econf failed Should gdk-pixbuf be a dependency for this package?
