The VMware ebuild specifically prohibits the mirror system from mirroring any of the components of the ebuild. This is apolicy decision due to VMware being a commercial entity, with their own mirror structure. I'll look to see what I can do about getting the updates mirrored on our servers, but it looks like my best course of action is going to be to update the ebuild.
I thought vmware-any-any is just a third party patch set maintained by Petr Vandrovec and the osolete stuff is in http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/obsolete/
Looks like the files within vmware-any-anyxx.tar.gz are copywrited by VMWare
Well, the way that portage works is you can restrict mirroring of the files... or not. You cannot chose to not mirror one file and mirror another.
