as far as i can tell, the file seems to be a binary file. all the other digest files are text, so i believe this is an ebuild problem. this could also be user error, but am not sure.
bad rsync mirror?
i had this problem too ... but since there is a newer version of dialog out (dialog-0.9_beta20020519) i didnt bother doing anything about it

------- Additional Comments From seemant@gentoo.org 2002-07-28 00:59 ------- Nathan, for now, just generate the digest yourself cd /usr/portage/dev-util/dialog ebuild dialog-0.9_beta20020519.ebuild digest This doesn't seem to get me anywhere, however. It just spits out the error !!! The digest /usr/portage/dev-util/dialog/files/digest-dialog-0.9_beta20020519 appears to be corrupt. Aborting.
delete the digest before you compute a new one `rm /usr/portage/dev-util/dialog/files/digest-dialog-0.9_beta20020519` `ebuild /usr/portage/dev-util/dialog/dialog-0.9_beta20020519.ebuild digest`
this is an old version of dialog and no longer exists in portage ... closing bug
