Similar bugs: 26393, 30631 and 49768. I did a stage3 install from the Universal Live CD (latest amd release, install-amd64-universal-2004.1.iso), but xfree and a number of other packages depend on cabextract, which is not on the Live CD, making the packages CD unusable. USE=bindist as suggested in the above bugs doesn't help. They seem to suggest that cabextract is used for the fonts, which would be required for binary as well as source builds (just guessing here). The only way I was able to install xfree was by ferrying the cabextract source onto the machine and copying it to distfiles/. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Stage3 install from Universal Live CD 2. reboot 3. USE="bindist" emerge --usepkg xfree Actual Results: Error to the effect of "couldn't download cabextract."
not really a LiveCD issue as installing packages from within the stage3 has nothing to do with what packages are contained on the LiveCD itself. For cabextract to be on the stage3, it would have to be a system package in the default x86 profile. reassigning to bug-wranglers so that this can get to the x86 profile people.
I guess, cabextract is one of those bindist things too, guys.
xfree contains logic for bindist and has for a while. Someone care to grep the xfree ebuild in the stage3 for bindist?
Honestly, cabextract should not have been on the CD. If something was pulling it in, such as xfree, then the problem was with the xfree ebuild from the snapshot used to make 2004.1, as suggested by Donnie. I can tell you that the current stable xfree ebuild is functioning correctly, which will be the ebuild used on the next LiveCD/Packages CD. I am going to reassign this to livecd, since this really is our problem now, since it is fixed in portage.
2004.0 released, so this should be fixed. Reopen if it isn't.
er... 2004.2 even
