Description Tobias Leupold 2015-04-13 17:54:34 UTC
With Inkscape 0.91, guidelines are unusable, at least on KDE. If a new guideline is drawn from one of the rulers, it is initially added to the document, but then, the whole Inkscape window is dragged and moved around on the desktop. Same for trying to move the guidelines around: it's always the whole window that moves, not only the line.

Reproducible: Always

Am I the only one trying to use Inkscape 0.91 on KDE?!
Comment 2 Andreas Sturmlechner gentoo-dev 2015-06-26 18:31:54 UTC
...in Gentoo perhaps it seems. ;) Is that happening with KDE 4 or Plasma 5? Anyway sounds like something you should take to upstream.
Comment 3 Tobias Leupold 2015-06-26 21:44:25 UTC
I have current stable KDE installed (4.14.3). I wrote an upstream bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1469317 let's see if this is Gentoo-specific or not.
Comment 4 Tobias Leupold 2015-06-26 22:31:48 UTC
Actually, this only happens using the oxygen-gtk theme. Cf. https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1109812 . Still, I'm not sure where this bug belongs. But it's probably actually an upstream bug.
Comment 5 Tobias Leupold 2016-02-24 21:41:39 UTC
0.91-r1 is now stable, but the problem remains. This is really annoying, as one has to switch the GTK theme to be able to use Inkscape in a normal way. This really should be fixed!
Comment 6 Richard 2016-04-15 06:34:50 UTC
There's always a retard from GTK scum people that tries to smear their shit by forcing dependencies in KDE to break everything.
That's done on purpose, this people are scum and should go fuck themselves.

Nope. I also use Inkscape in KDE on Gentoo and am constantly annoyed by the unusable guides. Not only are the unusable; any attempt to use them actually puts Inkscape into a permanently broken state in which the guideline is in the document but cannot be interacted with and so cannot be repositioned or deleted. I do have Oxygen configured not to allow moving windows by dragging in exposed client areas, so I don't move the whole window, but dragging guides is still broken.

Using 0.91-r3 and the Adawaita GTK Theme, it works for me now. Probably fixed in the meantime?
Comment 9 Matt Whitlock 2017-11-05 22:43:58 UTC
I'm now running media-gfx/inkscape-0.92.1-r1 with x11-themes/oxygen-gtk-1.4.6-r1:2 and no longer experience any issues with guides. I do still have Oxygen set to "Drag windows from titlebar only."

If it works for you, it could be interesting for upstream:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1109812

If it works for you with >=media-gfx/inkscape-0.91-r3, I suggest we close this ticket after removing the older versions from the tree after stabilization.

Please check back after testing.
