The in tree version is fixed since 2014. The version in this overlay was added in 2012 and never touched and does not have a metadata.xml which indicates that we are responsible for this mess. But the wiki of the overlay gives the answer where to file the bug:

Aye, sorry, didn't noticed equery reverted to gentoo's metadata.
