I use pdq with POM-djet500-HP-DeskJet-520-1019522440 driver I got at linuxprinting.org. When I try to print I see the following in the job log: ******************************************************* Contents of log: /home/arek/.printjobs/013.driver_filter: hash: foomatic-gswrapper: not found cat: write error: Broken pipe Detailed information for job 013: Invoked by: pdq Time submitted: Tue Jul 23 16:17:53 2002 File type: PostScript document text conforming at level 3.0 Status: finished Printer: HPGS Driver: POM-djet500-HP-DeskJet-520-1019522440 Interface: local-port Language driver: postscript Driver environment: JOB_ID = 013 FILENAME = stdin STATUS = /home/arek/.printjobs/013.extra_status LOGNAME = arek USER = arek PATH = /bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin EOPT_opt_2 = 595 842 EOPT_opt_6 = 300 300 DRIVERDOCS = no Interface environment: JOB_ID = 013 FILENAME = stdin STATUS = /home/arek/.printjobs/013.extra_status LOGNAME = arek USER = arek PATH = /bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin SEND_EOF = NO PORT = /dev/lp0 ************************************************************ The printer prints one line only "Unknown device: djet500" After I copy the foomatic-gswrapper script to /usr/bin I get the following log: *************************************************************** Contents of log: foomatic-gswrapper: gs '-dBATCH' '-dSAFER' '-dQUIET' '-dNOPAUSE' '-sDEVICE=djet500' '-sOutputFile=/dev/fd/3' '/dev/fd/0' 3>&1 1>&2 Unknown device: djet500 /home/arek/.printjobs/014.driver_filter: line 74: 21503 Broken pipe cat $INPUT Detailed information for job 014: Invoked by: xpdq Time submitted: Tue Jul 23 16:30:30 2002 File type: PostScript document text conforming at level 3.0 Status: finished Printer: HPGS Driver: Interface: Language driver: Driver environment: Interface environment: ************************************************** Emerging ghostscript-7.05-r2 fixes the problem.
I am able to print again after I changed to hpijs driver. I am quite happy about the change as now I can use draft quality, which was not possible with the djet500 driver. Version 1.1 of hpijs, the one in portage, does not work with the PDQ driver description files from www.linuxprinting.org, so I had to install version 1.2 manually. I suggest that the bug be closed after the ebuild for hpijs is updated to version 1.2, and some info on hpijs is added to the ghostscript ebuild.
Hi, Can you please test again using new ebuilds from bugs #6618 and #6621? Thanks, -- Thomas.
After emerging the ebuild I see that many (all?) HP inkjet drivers were added back to EPS ghostscript, so the problem of "not working because I emerged new version" is solved. Consequently, the note 'To use ghostscript with an HP Inkjet printer, you will have to "emerge hpijs"' is no longer necessary and might be misleading.
Sorry, I keep changing my mind all the time. Now (18 August) that hpijs version 1.2 is in the portage, the note is OK.
Closing, since this seems to have been fixed.
