The install worked fine with the original kernel (can't remember version). I had wiped my system to try the Fedora Core 2 for AMD64. Decided to reinstall Gentoo. But now it won't install (because of the kernel upgrade, I believe). I have a Compaq R3000 with AMD64 3400+ processor, 1G Ram, Nvidia 440 graphics. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Follow Gentoo Linux/AMD64 Handbook installation instruction and use Gentoo store CD. 2. Downloaded stage 3 tar from mirror. 3. emerge sync (which causes the new kernel to be used). 4. genkernel all Actual Results: * Gentoo Linux Genkernel; Version 3.0.2a * Compiling Linux Kernel 2.6.7-gentoo for x86_64... * kernel: >> Running mrproper... * config: Using config from /usr/share/genkernel/x86_64/kernel-config-2.6 * Previous config backed up to .config.bak * >> Running oldconfig... * kernel: >> Cleaning... * >> Compiling 2.6.7-gentoo bzImage... * ERROR: Failed to compile the "bzImage" target... * -- Grepping log... -- SCSI generic support (CHR_DEV_SG) [Y/n/m/?] y * * Some SCSI devices (e.g. CD jukebox) support multiple LUNs * Probe all LUNs on each SCSI device (SCSI_MULTI_LUN) [Y/n/?] y Verbose SCSI error reporting (kernel size +=12K) (SCSI_CONSTANTS) [N/y/?] n -- Crypt target support (DM_CRYPT) [N/m/y/?] (NEW) * * Fusion MPT device support * Fusion MPT (base + ScsiHost) drivers (FUSION) [M/n/y/?] m Maximum number of scatter gather entries (FUSION_MAX_SGE) [40] 40 Enhanced SCSI error reporting (FUSION_ISENSE) [M/n/?] m -- CC arch/x86_64/kernel/setup64.o CC arch/x86_64/ia32/ia32_binfmt.o CC arch/x86_64/kernel/../../i386/kernel/bootflag.o In file included from arch/x86_64/ia32/ia32_binfmt.c:306: fs/binfmt_elf.c: In function `load_elf_interp': fs/binfmt_elf.c:371: warning: comparison is always false due to limited range of data type In file included from arch/x86_64/ia32/ia32_binfmt.c:306: fs/binfmt_elf.c: In function `load_elf32_binary': fs/binfmt_elf.c:783: warning: comparison is always false due to limited range of data type -- In file included from /usr/include/features.h:295, from /usr/include/limits.h:26, from include/ucl/uclconf.h:46, from include/ucl/ucl.h:39, from crypto/ucl_compress.c:22: /usr/include/sys/cdefs.h:183:1: warning: "__attribute_pure__" redefined In file included from include/linux/compiler.h:24, from include/linux/init.h:5, from crypto/ucl_compress.c:19: include/linux/compiler-gcc3.h:22:1: warning: this is the location of the previous definition In file included from /usr/include/features.h:295, from /usr/include/limits.h:26, from include/ucl/uclconf.h:46, from include/ucl/ucl.h:39, from crypto/ucl_compress.c:22: /usr/include/sys/cdefs.h:192:1: warning: "__attribute_used__" redefined In file included from include/linux/compiler.h:24, from include/linux/init.h:5, from crypto/ucl_compress.c:19: include/linux/compiler-gcc3.h:17:1: warning: this is the location of the previous definition -- CC drivers/acpi/pci_root.o CC drivers/acpi/pci_link.o CC fs/jfs/jfs_unicode.o CC fs/jfs/jfs_dtree.o fs/jfs/jfs_dtree.c: In function `add_index': fs/jfs/jfs_dtree.c:388: warning: ISO C90 forbids mixed declarations and code -- CC fs/reiserfs/do_balan.o CC drivers/block/cryptoloop.o CC drivers/block/compressloop.o CC fs/reiserfs/namei.o drivers/block/compressloop.c: In function `cloop_file_io': drivers/block/compressloop.c:67: warning: implicit declaration of function `blk_run_queues' drivers/block/compressloop.c: In function `load_compressed_head': drivers/block/compressloop.c:100: warning: int format, different type arg (arg 3) drivers/block/compressloop.c:145: warning: comparison of distinct pointer types lacks a cast -- CC fs/xfs/xfs_btree.o CC drivers/ide/pci/triflex.o CC fs/xfs/xfs_buf_item.o CC drivers/ide/pci/trm290.o drivers/ide/pci/trm290.c: In function `init_hwif_trm290': drivers/ide/pci/trm290.c:376: warning: `check_region' is deprecated (declared at include/linux/ioport.h:121) -- CC drivers/video/logo/logo_linux_vga16.o CC drivers/video/logo/logo_linux_clut224.o LD drivers/video/logo/built-in.o CC drivers/video/fbmem.o drivers/video/fbmem.c: In function `fb_cursor': drivers/video/fbmem.c:933: warning: passing arg 1 of `copy_from_user' discards qualifiers from pointer target type -- CC init/version.o LD init/built-in.o LD .tmp_vmlinux1 drivers/built-in.o(.text+0x5abd9): In function `cloop_file_io': : undefined reference to `blk_run_queues' make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1 * ERROR: Failed to compile the "bzImage" target... * -- End log... -- * Please consult /var/log/genkernel.log for more information and any * errors that were reported above. * Report any real genkernel bugs to bugs.gentoo.org and * assign your bug to genkernel@gentoo.org. Pleaes try the 2004.2 LiveCD (you may need to modprobe ide-disk after bootup) and let me know if that works for you.
2004.2 did the trick for the user. Closing this bug.
