Description Scott Jacobsen 2004-06-19 13:15:41 UTC
I emerged kde last night. It appears the emerge also updated my xserver to 4.3.0-r5. I no longer have anti-aliased fonts. I read a bunch of faqs and dinked about with various X-configuration files, but nothing worked.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge kde
2.
3.

Actual Results:
No more anti-aliased fonts.

Expected Results:
Installed kde AND still have anti-aliased fonts.

Portage 2.0.50-r8 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r0,

Unmerged xfree-4.3.0-r5, fontconfig-2.2.2, and freetype-2.1.5-r1. Then emerge xfree86. Still don't have anti-aliased fonts. In the kde font control panel if I check "Use anti-aliasing for fonts" and then click OK, and then open that control panel again "Use anti-aliasing for fonts" has become unchecked.

It looks like fonts become anti-aliased when I blow them up to a certain size.
Perhaps this is what changed with the latest xserver. I'm not sure where this
would be configured. I've attached a .png showing the same font at two
different sizes. Only the larger one is anti-aliased.

But this doesn't explain why I can't check "Use anti-aliasing for fonts" in the
KDE control panel.

Oh. Finally figured out why my settings don't stick. For some reason the settings on my .qt dir were drw--rw-- rather than drwx----. I don't know ht that happened. Now when I click "use anti-aliased fonts" it stays clicked.
