Description Scott Alfter 2015-03-23 23:46:25 UTC
This is something that ordinarily requires root privileges, but even if you invoke systemsettings with kdesu or sux, you still can't use systemsettings to change KDM settings. I'd like to remove the user list and last user logged in from KDM as they're potential security issues, but I can't.

According to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=252030, this has been an issue for about 4.5 years now, going back to KDE 4.5.x. There's also a forum thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-845576-highlight-.html

Reproducible: Always

Unfortunately I don't think there's much we can do about it. KDM isn't even developed upstream anymore.

We splitted libkgreeter from kdm with KDE Workspaces 4.11.17, which is now added to tree. You could switch to lightdm or sddm if it works better for you.
Comment 3 Scott Alfter 2015-03-31 16:25:54 UTC
sddm & nxserver don't play well with each other, but lxdm & server do, so that's what I'm now running.

A bit of suggested cleanup: if kdm is going away, it should probably be removed from kdebase-meta.
