The Alps touch pad is not sensed and can't be configured. This is not unique to Gentoo. I have provided a link to a document about a Debian user who has provided a kernel patch that fixed the problem. Can it be provided in Gentoo. Many people complain about not getting the Alps touchpad working with Linux on Compaq Presario notebooks. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. I can't provide additional information about my system because my 54G wireless doesnt work on Gentoo for AMD64. Here is the link to the document providing a patch for the Alps touchpad on the Compaq Presario notebook. This persons machine is nearly identical to mine. http://cmb.phys.cwru.edu/kisner/linux/compaq-r3000/
I recently bought a compaq like this one and i always need to patch the kernel sources, it doesnt bother me, but can be great to have this patch on at least on gentoo-dev-sources, and in the next release have on amd64 livecd a kernel for those compaq laptops like the one for emachines. This is no amd64 buisness. Reassigning to x86-kernel@g.o
patch needs to be sent to upstream. Open a bug at bugzilla.kernel.org with the patch or just send it to the input subsystem kernel maintainer. Will not accept add-on driver patches to the gentoo-dev-sources package.
