Description Michaela Susan Buesing 2004-06-18 14:30:31 UTC
I have two (probably related) issues w/ firefox 0.9-r1:

1) When I try to move around in a textarea or any input field (including the URL input area) using the cursor keys, it won't work. Selecting the position in the textarea by clicking at the desired position works though. Test URLs: editing a message in the gentoo forum and this very bugzilla. :)

2) When I have two windows opened at the same time, selecting a text input field doesn't work in one of them. The focus will stay on the other window.

I had similar problems with nightlies from about the 0.9 time...

inputing text is now much better in 0.9.3

check with new version and close?

I'm guessing you've upgraded from an older version of firefox.

1. Quit all copies of Firefox.
2. Inside your firefox profile directory (~/.mozilla/firefox/default.RANDOM_JUNK, where RANDOM_JUNK is, well, random gibberish, for the wizard-created profile) there is a file called compreg.dat.

Delete it. (or rename it to be safe, but deleting it has never known to cause problems)

3. Start firefox.
4. Enjoy!

It's been mentioned a few times on Mozilla's Bugzilla, but nobody has a perfect solution yet. Just delete the file after you upgrade.

Fixed in current versions by mozilla-launcher's detection of the newly installed firefox and automatic deletion of compreg.dat
