Description Paolo Pedroni 2015-03-11 13:26:36 UTC
sci-visualization/gnuplot is not a dependency of media-libs/leptonica[test], but if it is not installed, at least one test fails (excerpt from /var/tmp/portage/media-libs/leptonica-1.71-r1/work/leptonica-1.71_build/prog/test-suite.log):

The weird thing is that before installing gnuplot for the first time, there were at least 10 failing tests with the same "sh: 1: gnuplot: not found", but after emerging gnuplot and then unmerging it, only this test fails.

Comment 1 Thomas Kahle (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2015-03-12 09:26:51 UTC
I added gnuplot and I still get two failed tests:

kernel_reg
fpix1_reg

Then I ran the suite again, and all passed. I thought of a race condition, but I have run the tests a few times now and they always pass. Weird. I'll mark it as fixed.

I can't add gnuplot to the deps at the moment since it has no mips keyword.

@mips, please test and add ~mips to sci-visualization/gnuplot, if possible.

I know, they fail from time to time. Maybe they should be skipped, as they're not completely reproducible.
Comment 3 James Le Cuirot gentoo-dev 2015-04-15 23:24:48 UTC
I've addressed this for the upcoming 1.72 release by making it skip some tests when gnuplot isn't found so it doesn't need to be added to DEPEND any more. Unfortunately this breaks when regenerating with newer versions of automake but the scripts shipped in the tarball work as they are. The good news is that other fixes have negated the need to run eautoreconf so this problem can be avoided for now but I realise that this will still need fixing eventually.
Comment 4 James Le Cuirot gentoo-dev 2015-04-15 23:26:27 UTC
Forgot to mention the race condition. I don't recall seeing this before, certainly not under 1.72. Maybe it's been fixed or maybe the older automake version somehow avoids the problem.
Comment 5 James Le Cuirot gentoo-dev 2015-05-01 23:26:36 UTC
1.72 is now in the tree. The fix works for newer automake versions now but we currently don't need to run eautoreconf anyway.
