CRIU 1.5 was released: http://criu.org/Download/criu#v._1.5 My hope is that this removes the restriction to <dev-libs/protobuf-c-1. From the build instructions it seems like that: http://criu.org/Installation#Native_protobuf-c
Added to the tree.
How did you figure out that <protobuf-c-1.1 is required? Did you just try to build with that version?
(In reply to Dennis Schridde from comment #2) > Did you just try to build with that version? Yes. A patch to fix the issue would be welcome (maybe upstream already has one?).

The patch you need fixes the explanatory section on comments within protobuf files and needs to be applied to dev-libs/protobuf: google/protobuf#243
(In reply to Dennis Schridde from comment #4) > google/protobuf#243 https://github.com/google/protobuf/pull/243

Really you should have opened a new bug for this stuff in the first place. Closing again since things should be fixed.
