After portage updated various alsa packages, it no longer stores the mixer values. I've set the values as both root and a normal user but they are no longer saved on reboot.  I've never had this problem with any other versions.

Works for me over here...  can youu please try the latest one in /usr/portage/media-sound/alsa-utils/files/alsasound

$ cp /usr/portage/media-sound/alsa-utils/files/alsasound /etc/init.d
$ chmod 755 /etc/init.d/alsasound
$ alsamixer
<change>
$ /etc/init.d/alsasound restart

Does it outright fail (give you [!!]) when it tries to store them?
