The plustek driver in the current sane-backends-1.0.24-r5 package in the Gentoo tree does not work with USB 3.0 ports. This is a known bug in sane and has been reported/discussed e.g. at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1250196 As per above bug discussion the problem has been identified and fixed in sane Git, see: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/sane/sane-backends.git/commit/?id=014b45d920f1fb630e1a31bb01f1da02ea2a6a87 Please someone port this fix to the Gentoo package also, otherwise on all modern PCs which solely have USB 3.0 ports the affected scanners just do not work :-/ Reproducible: Always
I have now build a custom overlay ebuild with the linked patch (my first own ebuild - yay!) however I must report that it still does not work on USB 3. Consequently, that patch alone does not help :-( As a another test, I tried a different scanner with the genesys driver and it worked fine, so the rest of my setup appears to be good, it is really the plustek driver. Next step would be to have an ebuild for sane.git and try that...
Ok, well if you can figure out exactly which patches are needed to make this work, and they can be backported, I'm happy to apply them. I don't have hardware to test though.
should be fixed in 1.0.25_pre* snapshot
