Description john lowell 2004-06-16 13:52:23 UTC
Writing ~/.Xdefaults to provide for a lucida font for aterm I'd like to employ, the same one used by the fluxbox style I've selected, the font appears but without the text cursor. The cursor will appear in outline form when a program other than the terminal is activated, but it disappears when aterm is clicked. The standard fonts for aterm, say 8x13, show the cursor perfectly well. I've searched the forums for an answer and see others complaining about the same thing, frequently concerning artwiz fonts, but no one as far as I can see has submitted a bug report on this particular matter. Is there something wrong with the fonts? Must I edit and add something? I entered the font name in ~/.Xdefaults exactly as it appeared in xfontsel.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Write ~/.Xdefaults to provide for lucida font for aterm.
2.Open aterm, see fonts appear correctly but with no text cursor.
3.Get concerned about doing any editing with such a problem

Actual Results:
I saw no text cursor except in outline form when terminal is deactivated

Expected Results:
I expected to see a text cursor operating normally

The problem with aterm and TTF and other resizeable fonts is that they are generally broken (they're broken with rxvt and xterm, too). Some fonts will work, some will not. For example, on my system "Lucida Console" seems to work fine, while "Lucida" is broken (has no cursor and the colors are somewhat strange. I'm marking this as 'upstream' as it's the aterm's authors who should provide support for more fonts (shall they decide it's a good thing to add support for them to aterm).
