Created minimal CD, yaboot starts up just fine, then on the Open Firmware screen it switches over to it asks me to "release key to continue." After checking, none of the USB ports are working, no power going to any keyboard. Computer is a G5. Steps: 1. Visited https://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml, clicked on PPC/PPC64 iso link. 2. Downloaded install-powerpc-minimal-20140713.iso 3. Burned to DVD 4. Boots as described above. Reproducible every time.
I don't have that hardware to test unfortunately. Do you know if there's a missing kernel module or similar problem?
Quite possibly. There was one report, Bug 84894 (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84894), that looked very similar, but that was apparently resolved due to it being a pre-release. Bug 40387 is also similar, but had a HUCI controller and was moved out for being in the wrong place. My keyboard is plugged into the USB. Yaboot starts the install, the screen switches over to OpenFirmware, and in the middle of that the USB ports become disabled. I have booted into OpenFirmware before, and haven't had a problem with this keyboard.
Please try the current ISO: https://gentoo.osuosl.org/releases/ppc/current-iso/https://gentoo.osuosl.org/releases/ppc/current-iso/
First, holy cow you guys keep tabs on things. 3.5 years after the initial ticket and whatnot. Seriously, mad props on this, no sarcasm. Second, I’ve since moved on from that project and no longer have a ppc in my possession. If someone else sees this ticket with the same problem, good luck!
