The current handbook (for amd64, at least), refers users to download the minimal install image from <your mirror>/releases/amd64/autobuilds/current-iso/ (see e.g. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/Media#Download_the_media) However, the current-iso subdirectory no longer appears to exist for amd64. Look at e.g. http://distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/amd64/autobuilds/, for example. The current-iso subdirectory is not there, and appears to have been replaced (in function) by the text file latest-iso.txt and subdir current-install-amd64-minimal. I only noticed this as a user of my EFI install guide on the wiki (which reflects the instructions from the official handbook in this regard) emailed me about it. The x86 arch still appears to have the current-iso directory. best, sakaki
The Handbook has been updated to include the appropriate mirror locations for amd64 and x86 minimal install ISOs. It is now recommended the main site be used for downloading both minimal install cds and stage3 tarballs. The revision that made the change can be found here: https://wiki.gentoo.org/index.php?diff=409468&oldid=368764
