Description Sugoi Asian 2015-02-11 00:07:54 UTC
It seems that the required htaccess for owncloud 8 to upgrade is not copied during the emerge.

This issue has been identified on other platforms:

http://forum.owncloud.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26286

The user that fixed the issue stated:
>>>>
I made sure i have an .htaccess file (the one that came with the zip file). And then simply taking a look what is my version number (was 8.0.0.7) (take a look at your config file to see your version number).

I updated my version number from 8.0.0 and everything automatically worked.
<<<<<

During upgrade (I upgraded from the previous ebuild version 7 to 8) I noticed that the emerge said
^o^ hiding /.htaccess

Not sure what that means. I believe I can fix this issue by hand, but I think this should work from the emerge directly.

upon some investigation, I noticed that there are a lot of ._cfg000#_.htaccess files in my owncloud install dir (/var/www/localhost/htdocs/)

etc-update is NOT finding these
Comment 2 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2015-02-11 09:49:45 UTC
Thanks for the report!

Root .htaccess is indeed marked as a config file, but for web applications you need to specify the webapp path (as the path is depends on your installation)

If you have USE=-vhosts, webapp-config updates your application automatically, but should still warn about the config file. For example, here I rerun the update manually (after touching .htaccess):
/usr/sbin/webapp-config -U -h localhost -u root -d /owncloud owncloud 8.0.0
* Do you really want to upgrade to the same package?
* Waiting for 8 seconds...
* Press Ctrl-c if you are uncertain.
* Upgrading /owncloud-8.0.0 to /owncloud-8.0.0
*   Installed by root on 2015-02-11 10:43:54
* Config files owned by 0:0
!sum .htaccess
!empty config
!empty apps
!empty data
--- /var/www/localhost/htdocs/owncloud
*   Creating required directories
*   Linking in required files
* This can take several minutes for larger apps
^o^ hiding /.htaccess
*   Files and directories installed
* One or more files have been config protected
* To complete your install, you need to run the following command(s):
*
* CONFIG_PROTECT="/var/www/localhost/htdocs/owncloud//" etc-update
*
* Install completed - success

The problem could be that you missed the etc-update line, as it does not seem to be logged :( (with a standard elog configuration here)

I never knew about webapp-config :) I'll have to become more familiar with this step when updating. Thank you.

I've tested this process using the update steps you outlined - and yes, things worked as expected. Thank you.

Needed to run webapp-config followed by etc-update for each virtual host.
