Having upgrade my xorg-server package I experienced the same problem other Nvidia card users have experienced recently with: glxinfo name of display: :0 ... Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0". Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig ... I tried downgrading my xorg-server stack, after failing to fix the issue with the newer versions of the applications. So currently I have: [ebuild R #] app-admin/eselect-opengl-1.2.7 81 KiB [ebuild R #] x11-proto/glproto-1.4.17 ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" 124 KiB [ebuild R #] x11-base/xorg-server-1.16.2:0/1.16.1 USE="ipv6 minimal nptl suid systemd udev xorg -dmx -doc -glamor -kdrive (-selinux) -static-libs -tslib -unwind -wayland -xnest -xvfb" 5,670 KiB [ebuild R #] media-libs/mesa-10.3.5 USE="classic gallium nptl udev vdpau xvmc -bindist -debug -dri3 -egl -gbm -gles1 -gles2 -llvm -opencl -openmax -openvg -osmesa -pax_kernel -pic -r600-llvm-compiler (-selinux) -wayland -xa" ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" VIDEO_CARDS="(-freedreno) -i915 -i965 -ilo -intel -nouveau -r100 -r200 -r300 -r600 -radeon -radeonsi -vmware" 7,113 KiB [ebuild R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.65 USE="X acpi multilib tools uvm -pax_kernel" 68,265 KiB eselect opengl list Available OpenGL implementations: [1] nvidia * [2] xorg-x11 I've had this issue since very shortly after the eselect-opengl bump - on the 8th December 2014. Since then my glx acceleration has been broken. Everything on my system is working OK. In addition I multiboot a few other Linux distros on the same hardware (Arch, Mageia, OpenSUSE, etc.) - all these have fully working glx acceleration. I'm not sure if it's significant that I'm on the legacy 340.xx Nvidia drivers now (since my GPU is so ancient). But I've not been able to work around the problem (despite spending hours on it). But others, using the suggestions in the other main bug report and in the Gentoo forum thread, have mitigated the issue successfully. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks Robert Reproducible: Always

Comment on attachment 394890 [details] xorg.conf # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings Why don't you go for a modular xorg.conf.d/ approach? Then you can dump the Files section and probably fix the entire thing in one go. It looks like you only require the Device section with [Driver "nvidia"] (maybe in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia.conf and perhaps a display.conf for the monutor section (even though EDID is apparently working for you - you might simply need just the nvidia.conf).

Ok, That's one of the million things I've tried already!! :-) Sure I don't need any of my xorg.conf - but it fixes which monitor is the default for KDM... So I just put it back. Robert
Created attachment 394926 [details] kdm.log Fixed my KDM theme ( whoops :-)

Having figured that my (working) Arch install obviously goes for a more general X-setup I tried making the following changes... Clearly the Gentoo Wiki is a little bit lacking on how minimal you can go with X-org stack + Nvidia proprietary driver - before "essential features" start dropping off. The problem on my front is a bit of lack of essential knowledge of how everything ties together. I guess I could potentially update to the newer eselect-opengl and xorg-server - as I'm not using a xorg.conf file anymore... Not sure if I should change the status of the report or not... It's still not exactly clear if this should be flagged up as (ebuild) warning (i.e. with these USE flags you won't have glx acceleration) - as clearly I stumbled across a combination which only partially worked??!!
I had this issue and for me, the solution was removing /etc/ld.so.conf.d/000opengl which was left behind by the new eselect-opengl, but conflicts with opengl settings from the stable eselect-opengl. After this, you will need to do an env-update, and probably restart X.
