Description Scott D Friedemann 2002-07-21 19:50:15 UTC
I have attempted to install gentoo on a Toshiba 4100XDVD with a stage 1
tarball.

At step 3, I enter
        modprobe orinoco

then

insmod pcmcia_core
insmod i82365
insmod ds
cardmgr -f

This last entry brings back:

cardmgr[151]: watching 2 sockets
cardmgr[151]: starting, version is 3.1.33
cs: memory probe 0x0d0000-0x0dffff: clean
cardmgr[151]: unsupported card in socket 1
cardmgr[151]: product nfo: "SMC", "2632W-V2"
cardmgr[151]: manfid: 0x01bf, 0xb301 function: 6 (network)
cardmgr[151]: exiting

Is there any further word on this?

Best regards,

Scott D Friedemann

What version of the Gentoo CD? And run cardmgr -V and tell me what version it is.
Comment 2 Scott D Friedemann 2002-07-22 07:14:25 UTC
cardmgr version is 3.1.33
Comment 3 Scott D Friedemann 2002-07-22 11:13:49 UTC
The gentoo CD was the ISO dated June 21.

First off. You shouldn't modprobe orinoco first...

It also appears that your card uses the wvlan_cs driver. One option is that
instead of calling cardmgr -f you can probably just modprobe wvlan_cs for the
install until you get the latest version of cardmgr which should have that
configured.

First thing I saw on Google when I searched SMC 2632W

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
