The ebuilds version 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 contain the entry LICENSE="LGPL-2.1". This is wrong, it should be LICENSE="BSD-2".
The license information can be found on the matio homepage and also checked the COPYING file of the unpacked ebuilds.

Any progress?

The only necessary change is to replace LICENSE="LGPL-2.1" with  LICENSE="BSD-2" in the two ebuilds.
