today i had to reinstall my printer and i got huge troubles with it. no matter what i tried i always got that as above. after about 2 hours of searching, i've discovered, that i need to change 'FileDevice' to 'Yes' in /etc/cups/cups.conf to be able to add new printer. i have configured my printer few times before and i've never had to do it. i think it should be mentioned in printing how-to (and maybe even add some short info about it after emerge cups? it depends on you) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Can someone of the printing team take a look at this? On one hand this seems pretty obvious as we indeed use the "file:/" URI to configure the printers (foomatic-configure and such), on the other hand it's the first time I hear it's needed and I can hardly find a forum posting that seconds this (except for one which isn't even confirmed).
i'm not sure, but since the syntax has been changed in bug #44685 i think it has to be done
