Tove, We recently sent out an email to our admins on our gentoo-mirrors@gentoo.org mailing list stating that we were doing some internal changes with our CVS and that half the ebuilds would be changing, therefore requiring one big sync. Nothing on your end would have to be touched. That was the reason for this big sync. This should be happening no more than once.
