Description Markus Goppelt 2015-01-05 16:29:16 UTC
Hello,

I have a serious issue with gnome-3.14.0. gnome-shell-3.14.3 crashes twice after logging in (console) and startx.

The messages are

Jan 5 15:04:57 phenom kernel: traps: gnome-shell[17458] trap int3 ip:7fd6f63c667a sp:7fff88c4c080 error:0

I dumped the cores and got a backtrace with gdb (core.4699):

The problem disappears after migrating from x11-drivers/ati-drivers (VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx") to x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati (VIDEO_CARDS="radeon").

What is you ati-drivers version? Does it occur the same when running Gnome from gdm instead of startx? Please provide your xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or take a look to http://worldofgnome.org/in-gnome-3-12-systemd-will-track-xorg-logs/ if you don't find one)

ati-drivers-14.12-r1

gdm won't start (crashes several times).

I only see that error, can you also provide the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old file?

Also, can you try to use a simpler WM (for example icewm) to check if 3D is really working with that? (glxgears, etracer...)

Sorry, I switched to xf86-video-ati. I can't really check any more. I am also having issues with xf86-video-ati:

OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits)

. But at least I can log in. But that would be the topic for another bug.
