When emerging net-ftp/jftpgw you are also required to emerge sys-apps/xinetd as a run-time requirement. 

This is not the case and would be better if it was removed and made an optional install:

# emerge -p jftpgw

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] sys-apps/xinetd-2.3.13
[ebuild  N    ] net-ftp/jftpgw-0.13.4-r1

totally pruned from DEPEND

if you want inetd support i guess emerge it yourself :)
