Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2014-12-15 16:21:53 UTC
Even if I don't have either of the involved packages in my world file (and, then, portage should be able to choose the proper one if I don't misremember). I get:
[ebuild U ~] mate-base/mate-control-center-1.8.3 [1.8.1] USE="-debug" 1.276 KiB
[blocks B ] x11-wm/mate-window-manager ("x11-wm/mate-window-manager" is hard blocking x11-wm/marco-1.8.0)

Total: 24 packages (16 upgrades, 8 new), Size of downloads: 84.220 KiB
Conflict: 1 block (1 unsatisfied)

I am not sure if this is expected :/

It does not just depend on your world file, but also on the dependencies of the packages pulled in by your world file (and @system too).

I suspect that the mate-base/mate-1.8.0 dependencies need to be updated to be compatible with the mate-base/mate-control-center-1.8.3 dependencies. In mate-base/mate-1.8.0 we have RDEPEND=">=x11-wm/marco-1.8:0", and in mate-base/mate-control-center-1.8.3 we have RDEPEND = "|| ( >=x11-wm/marco-1.8.2:0 >=x11-wm/mate-window-manager-1.6:0 )".

Reassigning to Matthias since he did the version bump:

Comment 3 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2014-12-16 09:08:44 UTC
Ah, yes, the problem is that I have added keywords for mate-control-center and nor for marco and, then, portage refuses to update to marco-1.8.2 as it's still in testing. Due to that it tries to pull in the other option (mate-window-manager) that causes the blockers.

I guess this is INVALID then :) (sorry for the noise, I didn't notice the higher version requirement in mate-control-center ebuild)
