Description intdevourer 2014-12-13 04:13:41 UTC
After updating libvirt to 1.2.10-r2, virt-manager fails to connect to libvirt. This leaves me with no access to my virtual machines.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Have stable libvirt(1.2.10-r2), libvirt-python(1.2.9), and virt-manager(0.10.0-r2) installed.
2. Start libvirt with '/etc/init.d/libvirtd start'
3. Start virt-manager
Actual Results:
virt-manager fails to connect to libvirt.

Expected Results:
Connect to libvirt and access virtual machines.

This was fixed by installing app-emulation/libvirt-python-1.2.10 from ~amd64.

Comment 3 Matthias Maier gentoo-dev 2014-12-13 11:26:00 UTC
As a temporary workaround, please keyword and emerge

  dev-python/libvirt-python-1.2.10
  app-emulation/virt-manager-1.1.0

For connecting to libvirt-1.2.10 at least libvirt-python-1.2.10 is necessary ('module' object has no attribute 'VIR_DOMAIN_BLOCKED'). For libvirt-python-1.2.9 at least virt-manager-1.0.1 is nesseary ('module' object has no attribute 'VIR_CRED_AUTHNAME')

same here
Comment 6 Elias Probst 2014-12-20 12:28:29 UTC
This happens, because the versions of 'app-emulation/libvirt' and 'dev-python/libvirt-python' aren't forced to be in sync.

The dependency in 'app-emulation/libvirt' should be:
>=dev-python/libvirt-python-${PV}[${PYTHON_USEDEP]

instead of simply:
dev-python/libvirt-python[${PYTHON_USEDEP]
Comment 7 Elias Probst 2014-12-20 12:34:09 UTC
Sorry, my previous comment was sent without too much thinking. Here it is corrected:

This happens, because the versions of 'app-emulation/libvirt' and 'dev-python/libvirt-python' aren't forced to be in sync.

This could be achieved by blocking in 'dev-python/libvirt-python' all 'app-emulation/libvirt' versions lower than $PV:

!<app-emulation/libvirt-${PV}

Does this approach make sense? Are there better ways to do this?
Comment 8 Matthias Maier gentoo-dev 2014-12-20 12:45:36 UTC
Starting from version 1.2.10 onwards dev-python/libvirt-python will depend on subslot app-emulation/libvirt:0/$PV such that always a matching version is installed.

Unfortunately, libvirt-python-1.2.10 is not yet stabilized.
Comment 9 Nathaniel Grocott 2014-12-25 20:05:17 UTC
I believe someone fix the ebuilds. I had the same error in virt-manager with the following packages just as libvirt or libvirt-python was updated.

app-emulation/libvirt-1.2.10-r2
dev-python/libvirt-python-1.2.9
app-emulation/libvirt-glib-0.1.9
app-emulation/virt-manager-0.10.0-r2

But I have it working again with the following:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] app-emulation/libvirt-1.2.10-r3:0/1.2.10 USE="audit avahi caps fuse iscsi libvirtd lvm lxc macvtap nfs nls openvz parted pcap (policykit) qemu sasl systemd udev vepa virt-network -firewalld -numa -phyp -rbd (-selinux) -uml -virtualbox -wireshark-plugins -xen" 0 KiB

dev-python/libvirt-python-1.2.10

Comment 10 Matthias Maier gentoo-dev 2014-12-28 10:18:45 UTC
All necessary ebuilds are stabilized now, closing.
