Hi, I had 1.1.55-r1 installed with KDE support (USE="ooo-kde"), it was working VERY well. I merged 1.1.57. When I started it, it compained that files had changed and that I needed to run setup. When I run setup it segfaults, signal 11, SIGSEGV. I also tried to delete .xopenoffice and .xversion in HOME. So I remerged 1.1.55-r1, and it worked BEAUTIFULLY again. Now I tried 1.1.59, it's the same problem as 1.1.57. So I try to remerge 1.1.55-1 again, but it has disappeared form portage. Why did you remove it ? 1.1.55-1 is the fastest openoffice I had until today, its beautiful with KDE support. The BEST openoffice release so far; and now you have deleted it and replaced with things that don't work. Please put 1.1.55-r1 back into portage.
The thing is: 1.1.59 really should work with kde-support, there are no changes in kde-support between 1.1.55-r1 and 1.1.59 which should break it. 1.1.55-r1 was only a test release, that's why it has been removed. Also could you please provide more info, what is the exact ouput when you start let's say xoowriter. Basically you shouldn't need to run setup again (also it is run automatically by the wrapper script so no need to ever call it directly).
Well, I didn't give any output as there really wasn't any. I have the same problem as someone else posted on the forums: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=179615&highlight=openoffice Pasting from this: bash-2.05b$ xooffice You are starting this version of Ximian OpenOffice.org for the first time As the user install has changed again you will have to redo your settings running openoffice.org setup... setup failed.. abort And if you run setup directly it segfaults, with no relevent output (see what was posted in the above thread on the forums). I also tried strace, nothing relevent there too. I now got 1.1.55-1 merged back. It's working fast and beautifull again :-)
I am having the same problem with the same exact shell output. I have never installed this product before. I am using the USE='ooo-kde' flag as well.
@JoWilly: The question is: Why do you run setup again, when you already had an old version installed? Did you remove your user install in between? Still I need some more info, just tried again and 1.1.59 works beautifully for me (with kde integration). Also if the thread contains some valid info please translate it, as I don't speak french
I personally did NOT have openoffice-ximian installed before, therefore setup would run on my computer. Running xoowriter from bash shell segfaults. Here is the output from the kde crash handler. This backtrace appears to be useless. This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creating of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash. This was a totally clean install. I would also like to mention that before posting to this bug that I had read the previous similar bug and have linc installed and I also reinstalled openssh which another poster said worked for them. This did not help me at all. BTW Iam not using a very radical set of cflags. march=athlonxp -o3 -pipe and fomit-frame-pointer My USE= flags are as follows USE="X 3dnow scanner xmms samba tiff" I also added USE='ooo-kde' during emerge. If I can be of any assistance in helping trace this problem please let me know.
Reason why I have to start setup: If I start xoowriter after upgrading from 1.1.55-1, I get a message box which tells me that some files have changed, and asks me to run setup. I have no other choice to click "OK" and it ends there. The rest of my procedure is as explained above (setup crashes, etc...)
@ Mike: Try to add --enable-symbols=yes to the configure options and rebuild ooo-ximian, this should provide more useful info. Would be great if you could help, cause I can't reproduce it, so am dependent on user reports... @JoWilly: This definately shouldn't happen as the user install changed zero between 1.1.55-r1 and 1.1.59, hmmm....
Andreas I must be honest and I have never done this in gentoo. If you could, please tell me which file to enter the configure options. I would assume it would go into the ebuild but I dont know where it would go exactly. If you provide me that information I will rebuild the package tonite and get the rsults posted. I hope I dont sound stupid by asking this but to be honest I am not a programmer, I am not new to linux but have only been using gentoo for about 5 months or so and have altered 0 ebuilds. Thanks for your help on this, its people like you who make gentoo the best distro around.
@Mike: No this doesn't sound stupid at all, this is a very valid question, so here we go: In the src_compile-part of the ebuild there is a line starting with myconf= following are all the configure options for the ebuild, as you see we use a lot ;-) After the line '--disable-java \' enter another line with '--enable-symbols=yes \' . Don't miss the backslash at the end of the line (otherwise configure will fail) also look that there is no further space after the backslash, ebuilds can be rather picky about that ;-) Don't hesitate to ask further questions, your help is very appreciated!
I fixed this by commenting out the DEBOO_FONTPATH variable in /usr/bin/xoofice and everything is working fine now in openoffice-ximian-1.1.57 with ooo-kde enabled. I don't know how safe this fix is, since I'm not exactly sure what DEBOO_FONTPATH does for us (gentoo users)... Either way, hope this helps someone.... @ mike: Try the solution Richard posted in Comment #10 , for that go to /usr/bin/xooffice and comment out (or remove) the "Default font path"-block. This is bogus anyway, the wrapper script really needs some extra love soonish...
Andreas, No go this did not help. I get the same exact error. Mike
Same troubles on my gentoo box :(
I have same problems... Tryed commenting Default font paths... Didn't worked...
I found a solution!! (well it works for me :D). What to do? Do this: 1. make a text file named .xversionrc (in your home dir). It should contain this data: [Versions] OpenOffice.org 1.1.1=file:///home/<username>/.xopenoffice/1.1.1 (without <>) 2. make directory tree ~/.xopenoffice/1.1.1 3. run xooffice (it will add evrything it needs...) I hope this will work for you too... Good Luck :D
@ Gregor: The trick with creating .xversionrc and ~/.xopenoffice/1.1.1 mysteriously works on my machine, too ... Thanks!
Now I'm on a new track concerning the cause of all this trouble ... There is nothing wrong with Icons... (that problem lies somewhere else :D) The problem is in Setup program... When you create those files, you avoid using setup program... O something else... Do you get some errors when saving files?
@ Gregor: Do you mean this error? Error loading BASIC of document file:///home/<username>/.xopenoffice/1.1.1/user/basic/dialog.xlc/: General Error. General input/output error. I got this in various cases, e.g. when saving files or executing Tools --> Options. This is one of the drawbacks of not being able to use the setup programme. I compared the contents of an existing ~/.openoffice/1.1.1 directory (conventional OpenOffice) with ~/.xopenoffice/1.1.1, which I created following your hint. It turns out that a lot of files and directories are missing in the self-created .xopenoffice directory. For this particular error I found a workaround, though. Check your ~/.xopenoffice/1.1.1/user/basic/ directory. There might be a file called script.xlc. Now simply "create" the missing dialog.xlc by: cp script.xlc dialog.xlc
Well I copied it from original OpenOffice. (and edited...) In both cases (I think) it works... But I can add the necesary files...
Does someone still get that problem with recent versions?
No, that problem vanished with openoffice-ximian-1.1.60. I think this bug can be closed ...
Ok, thanks for reporting back, I love it when bugs just disappear magically ;-)
