On my asus tp300la, fully updated ~amd64 system, xfce4-power-manager-1.4.2 makes backlight setting through the battery applet not work anymore. No calls by pkexec to xfpm-backlight-helper are shown in the log.

Downgrading to xfce4-power-manager-1.4.1 fixes the problem

The problem continues with xfce4-power-manager-1.4.3 as well as 1.4.4, while keeping 1.4.1 still works

I've checked http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-power-manager/tree/NEWS and there are only a 20 something lines of code changed. Check the git logs, only 4 commits.

I think your bug has to do with this commit:
http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-power-manager/commit/?id=2c7fc47ba156f0019f36bac0108dc7d8c11fe4db

Try building without this patch and see if the problem is still there.

Please take this bug upstream, as this is where it belongs. I have cleaned up in the tree but kept version 1.4.1 for you and left a note to keep it until this bug is resolved upstream.

I'm closing this bug now. You can reopen it when upstream has a fix in either a new release or a commit we can backport as a patch. It would be nice if you posted the upstream bug number here to keep us updated.
