Description Mark Knecht 2014-11-30 16:39:11 UTC
Calling plot() function fails

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge freemat (ver. 4.0 or 4.1 - tested both)
2. Start the program and run the following 3 lines of code:

x = linspace(-pi,pi);
y = cos(x);
plot(x,y,'r-');
Actual Results:
Instead of creating a plot it fails with the following messages:

--> x = linspace(-pi,pi);
--> y = cos(x);
--> plot(x,y,'r-');

Expected Results:
I tried FreeMat-4.2 in a Windows VM. It worked fine.

No error messages that I saw building the program. I tried building Ver 4.1 with both of the use flags enabled but it made no difference.

sci-mathematics/freemat-4.0 was built with the following:

Comment 1 Matthias Maier gentoo-dev 2014-12-01 00:32:36 UTC
Same for version 4.2
Comment 2 Mark Knecht 2014-12-01 14:49:36 UTC
As a small work-around for any Gentoo users who run across this in the future, the plot command does function if I remove the formatting portion of the command, as in

plot(x,y);

instead of

plot(x,y,'r-');

I've also run into a few other issues on Linux that I'm not seeing on the Windows version in my VM, most notably the plot3d command not rotating the graphics. However I cannot see any development on the Freemat web site since mid-2013 so possibly the project has died.
Comment 3 Mark Knecht 2014-12-01 14:55:20 UTC
Actually, having built the 4.2 version this morning it appears that the 3D stuff is working fine so the issue at hand is only the formatting portion of the plot command.

Working commands from help file that failed in 4.1 but work in 4.2:

t = linspace(0,5*pi,200);
x = cos(t); y = sin(t); z = t;
plot3(x,y,z);
view(3);
Comment 4 Michael Palimaka (kensington) gentoo-dev 2017-07-04 13:36:56 UTC
Package removed.
