Description Mario Bachmann 2014-11-30 11:53:37 UTC
My Machine with Intel-Haswell-CPU and MSI Z87 MPOWER Mainboard hangs during init phase.

Some weeks before booting the machine ran clean through init phase.
Not it hangs forever after posting "waiting for udev events".
When I press Strg-C I come over this point. But than I have to login an start udev manually.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start machine
Actual Results:
hang during init phase with messsage "Waiting for uevents to be processed". It comes from /etc/init.d/udev

Expected Results:
Should not hang during boot time.

haswell init.d # emerge --info

Comment 1 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-11-30 13:17:25 UTC
Could be a number of things causing this. Until you find it, please keep looking.
Comment 2 Mario Bachmann 2014-11-30 14:28:55 UTC
I have no idea what could cause that behaviour.

The machine only has mainboard, cpu and ram. No PCIe cards at all.

Perhaps somebody can help who knows udev in detail. How is an udev event defined? Do you have some examples?

And my additional question: what is the reason to wait forever for such an event? Shouldn't there be a timeout? Perhaps a second try after some time?
