After updating gtk+ - which now needs hicolr-icon-theme nad gnome-icon-theme I got a lot of warning during start of a kde - program like kate: tfoerste@nhh221 ~ $ kate kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 16x16/stock/chart not valid. kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 16x16/stock/code not valid. kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 16x16/stock/data not valid. kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 16x16/stock/document not valid. Not useful, but there's been some discussion (that says it's a Gentoo problem?): http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80839
i get the same problem running any kde program under fluxbox, can someone using kde try to see if theres a way to configure what icons kde makes availble?
The workaround posted on kde's bugzilla works for me: as a workaround, you can turn off the warning by running "kdebugdialog --fullmode". Look for debug area 264, and change the combobox for the warning to "None"
This bug is very annoying, not just for the countless the debug messages but because it slows down launching any application.
and using hicolor-0.5 doesn't help ?
I didn't notice any mention of a solution for this problem either here or in the changelog for hicolor-0.5, but I'll put it in package.keywords and see what happens.
hicolor-icon-theme-0.5 doesn't seem to help. I re-emerged kdelibs and then emerged hicolor-0.5. Same error as before.
An in-depth discussion of this bug can be found over at Debian's bug tracker: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=241283 I couldn't find a solution, but the discussion may be enlightening.
Created attachment 34783 [details] annoying_icon_dir_warning_kdelibs-3.2.3.patch
The same patch has been applied upstream now.
I was able to work around this issue by simply copying the index.theme file in /usr/share/icons/hicolor to index.desktop in the same dir as described here: http://pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?name=Splatt_Forums&file=viewtopic&topic=3693&forum=17
I think this issue is best discussed here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80839
