Description Patrick 2004-06-04 21:28:40 UTC
I have the Nero Ultimate package version 6.3.1.15 and your instructions don't quite match up with the options given. There is no option under the File menu that even remotely resembles "Burn CD image" and none of the options a user is told to change are available even when I go through some of the other methods to burn CDs. I'm pretty sure I can do it, but there's no sense in confusing people. You may also want to include instructions for Blindwrite, it's about as simple as they come.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open the page, it's there.
2.
3.

Could you provide us with the procedure for burning with Nero? (no Nero nor any Windows here).
Is there any difference between the Nero Ultimate package you mentioned and the Nero package most users get when they buy a writer?

Thanks.

Nero Ultimate is just a suite of different Nero programs, one of which happens to be Nero Burning ROM. I can't tell you the exact differences between the OEM versions, the free versions and the full versions because the version I just downloaded is the first version of Nero I've tried to use in about three years. The fact that I am completely unfamiliar with the program is why noticed the inaccuracy. I did go back and tinker around with it and got it to work, it's not hard.

1. Cancel the wizard and select Burn Image from the Recorder menu.
2. Navigate to the imagine, select it and click Open.
3. Select the Finalize CD checkbox (in case the default settings have been changed, the Write checkbox is also checked and Track-at-once is set as the write method. Does the write method even matter here? The other options are Disc-at-once and Disc-at-once/96.)
4. Click the Burn button, wait for it to give the "finished" notice and click Done.

If I'm dealing with complete CDs or images, I stick with Blindwrite (they do have a free trial version as well. Start the program click Write, click the Open button at the end of the Source line, select the ISO, click Write ... if you put the CD in after you've started the program you may have to click the Refresh button at the end of the Destination drive line before writing.)

Anyone care to double-check these on his/her Windows machine and update the Gentoo Handbook? If not, I'm going to remove those instructions and put the remainders in the FAQ.

Sorry, no winbox here.
I agree with you Sven, burning instructions for Windows whould be in the FAQ. After all, it is a Gentoo Handbook, not a windows cd burning guide.
Let's keep cdrecord and K3B and have a link to the FAQ for burning under other OS'es

Instructions moved to the Gentoo FAQ in CVS.
Burning instructions removed from the Gentoo Handbook (except for cdrecord/k3b) in CVS.
Nero Burning ROM instructions in Gentoo FAQ altered to read the instructions in this bugreport in CVS.
