sys-apps/baselayout-1.9.4 is marked as stable for x86. This brokes bootup when modules-update is called as /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf hasn't be updated and a new parameter is not recognised (--assume-kernel). Some automatic generated files in /etc are incorrect or missing. (ie: "nvidia" and "sg" modules are not autoprobed on my system) An updated version of sys-apps/module-init-tools should be marked stable too (I merged sys-apps/module-init-tools-3.0-r2 and problem was corrected) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot (my kernel is 2.6.6) 2. cenerates --assume-kernel=2.6.6 in / instead of updating files in /etc 3. gentoo-box root # emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r7 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.2, glibc-2.3.2-r9, 2.6.6) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.6 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.15 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r3 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs buildpkg ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.mirror.sdv.fr/ http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/src/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow X aalib alsa apm arts avi berkdb cdr crypt cups curl dv dvd encode faad flac foomaticdb gdbm gif gtk gtk2 imlib joystick jpeg kde libg++ libwww linguas_en linguas_fr mad mikmod mmx mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis oss pam pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline scanner spell sse ssl tcpd tiff truetype usb x86 xml2 xmms xv zlib"
I just confirm this bug with baselayout-1.9.4 and module-init-tools-3.0 on x86
Ok, this is fully resolved in baselayout-1.9.4-r2, which I've just marked stable. Thanks for the bug report and confirmation.
