digiKam-4.5.0 has been released: http://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/
The 4.4.0 ebuild seems to work for 4.5.0 also, at least for me - just rename it and comment out the line that says PATCHES=...
Correction to comment 1: It works, but some features are missing. I am not sure why the ebuild deletes the "extras" directory at the prepare step. In 4.5.0, face detection (libkface) and some parts of the geotagging (libkgeomap) have become optional. So when I used the 4.4.0 ebuild renamed to 4.5.0, then e.g. the "map view" of an album is no longer available.
Just updating the dependencies to >=media-libs/libkface-4.5.0 and >=media-libs/libkgeomap-4.5.0 respectively seems to do it.
I suggest creating local use flags facedetect and geo for the dependencies on libkface and libkgeomap to make these features optional. These same use flag names are used by media-plugins/frei0r-plugins and media-gfx/darktable respectively.
We still don't have 4.5. And, in the meantime, digiKam 4.6.0 already released :). https://www.digikam.org/node/725
I renamed digikam, libkgeomap, libkface and kipi-plugins ebuilds from their latest versions in portage to 4.6.0 sans any patches and they all compiled and run fine.
