It looks like the test suite has these failures with libxml2 installed. I've filed an upstream bug about it.

Just a quick update: dev-ruby/libxml-2.8.0 passes all tests. Maybe removing the old one and closing this bug would be ok?

Sounds good. I've just filed bug 543250 to mark libxml-2.8.0 stable, and I'm going to close this bug.
