Using GCC 2 I emerged Gkrellm, and the gkrellm-seti plugin. I activate the plugin and it works fine. However after setting it up to launch the command line seti client I clicked it and as per its functionality it launched the SETI client. However it then caused gkrellm to crash. I killed gkrellm and restarted it and it worked normally. After killing the seti client, when I restarted it using Gkrellm I got the same problem.
unfortunately the gkrellm-seti applet is buggy, as the upstream author freely admits. he also stated he has not had much time for it, and doesn't seem like he will in the forseeable future. the release we have was his quick hack to just get it to compile with the current gkrellm. if you're willing to take a hack at it, please do so, else my inclination would be towards masking, and subsequently removing the package from portage entirely.
Yeah masking sounds good. Maybe replace it with the one at http://www.yty.net/h/gkrellm/ ? That's what the current plugin was based off of.
techie, can you make an ebuild for it (time is sadly against me these days..)
I never made an ebuild before, so I'm going to have to learn. But as they say there is no time like the present. I'll do my best and once I get that ebuild done I'll submit a new bugzilla entry for it. As far as the current plugin, I very much agree the best thing to do is to mask and eventually remove it from the portage tree.
Okay I made the ebuild which works fine. However the plugin binary that they provide on the website won't work with the current version of GKrellM. They don't provide a tar.gz source. Anyways I've been unable to find another GkrellM plugin. If I find one I'll make an ebuild for it...
techie, reopen this bug if you find something
