sorry, i cannot reproduce that, neither can i find anybody who can
do you still get this error?
No, not any more. I gave somewhat up on mc, and started to do some cleaning up of my installed packages. I wondered why I still had X installed. I was shure I did not need it. Asked in the forum, and somebody recommended the dep utility from http://home.jesus.ox.ac.uk/~ecatmur/my-bin/ , since qpkg does not seem to list all reverse dependencies. I also used the --depclean mode, and after an hour of work or so, it had removed MANY packages. Some days later I tried to install mc for a last time, and it patched without an error message. Now I can't reproduce the error anymore and have a working mc. I can only guess, that the dep utility fixed something. Can't imagine what.
And since I don't have this problem anymore, and no one else ever had it, I guess you can close this bug. Sorry to have bothered you.
the important thing is that it works for you now :)
