this concerns mainbards with via south bridges and onboard via sata controllers... te via ide support needs to modulerized in order for the via_sata module or driver to gain control over the sata controller.. if the ide modules loads prior or if its built into the kernel it will run prior to sata and take over the sata controllers so that they are then given ide names hde,f,gand h instead of sda,b,c and d... it may also work to make both the ide and the saa modules and load the sata prior to ide... i havent tried that myself. ciao Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I'll look into it
isn't this addressed in your testing livecds chris?
Actually, I've done this on my -test4 CD, which I have not yet uploaded, so it has not been tested at all.
The only problem I could see is that users with a VIA-based motherboard would have problems booting from their CDROM, which is why this needs to be tested.
This must not be a module for users with a via-ide based CDROM to be able to boot the LiveCD. There isn't much we can do about this until the next kernel release.
